How to Reach Tadoba from Nagpur: Distance, Routes & Travel Tips

Planning a Tadoba jungle safari from Nagpur? Nagpur is one of the most convenient starting points for visiting Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, particularly for travellers arriving by air or travelling from cities across India.

Tadoba is located in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district and has several safari entry gates spread across different zones. Because the gates are located in different parts of the reserve, the best route from Nagpur depends on which safari gate and resort you are visiting.

You can reach Tadoba from Nagpur by road, train or flight, although flying to Nagpur and then travelling by road is especially convenient for visitors arriving from other cities.

In this guide, we explain the different routes, approximate distances, travel options and practical tips for planning your Tadoba trip from Nagpur.

Nagpur to Tadoba: At a Glance

Travel Option	Route / Main Hub	Approximate Distance	Typical Travel Time
By Air	Nagpur Airport → Tadoba region	Varies by gate	About 2.5–4 hours by road
By Road	Nagpur → Tadoba	Varies by gate	About 2.5–4 hours by road
By Train	Nagpur Railway Station → Tadoba	Varies by gate	About 2.5–4 hours by road
By Train	Chandrapur Railway Station → Tadoba	Varies by gate	About 1–1.5 hours by road

These are planning ranges rather than fixed figures. The actual distance and journey time depend on your safari gate, resort location, traffic, road conditions and route.

The official Maharashtra Tourism website currently lists Nagpur at approximately 140 km from Tadoba, Chandrapur Railway Station at approximately 45 km, and Chimur at approximately 32 km.

Why Nagpur Is an Important Gateway to Tadoba

Nagpur is one of the main transit hubs for visitors travelling to Tadoba.

The city has:

• An international airport
• A major railway station
• Good road connectivity
• Regular taxi and car rental services
• Road access towards different Tadoba safari zones

The official Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve visitor information identifies Nagpur as the closest airport and lists Nagpur, Chandrapur and Wardha among the nearest railway stations.

For visitors coming from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi and other major cities, Nagpur can therefore be a convenient starting point for the final road journey to Tadoba.

How to Reach Tadoba from Nagpur by Air

If you are travelling to Tadoba from another city, flying to Nagpur is often the most time-saving option.

Nagpur Airport

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport (NAG) is the nearest major airport to Tadoba.

After reaching Nagpur Airport, you need to continue by road to your resort and safari gate.

You can arrange:

• A pre-booked resort transfer
• A private taxi
• A rental car
• A travel vehicle arranged through your tour operator

The road distance depends on your final destination.

For example, the Kolara side can be approached from Nagpur through the Umred–Chimur side, while travellers visiting the Moharli side may approach through Chandrapur.

Why Pre-Book Your Airport Transfer?

It is advisable to arrange your transfer before arriving in Nagpur, particularly if:

• You have an early or evening safari.
• You are travelling with children or senior citizens.
• You have multiple pieces of luggage.
• Your resort is away from the main town.
• You are arriving late in the evening.
• You want to travel directly to your resort without arranging a taxi after landing.

The official TATR visitor guidance also recommends arranging transport to your hotel and safari gate as part of your trip planning.

Nagpur to Tadoba by Road

Travelling by road is one of the easiest ways to reach Tadoba from Nagpur.

However, there is an important point to remember:

Tadoba does not have one single entry point.

Your route should be selected according to your safari gate.

Nagpur to Kolara

Kolara is one of the important safari gates on the Nagpur side of Tadoba.

A commonly used approach is:

Nagpur → Umred → Kanpa → Chimur → Kolara

The distance is approximately 120 km, depending on the starting point and exact route. Some published gate-specific information places Kolara at around 120 km from Nagpur.

The journey can take approximately 2.5–3 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

Kolara can therefore be a convenient option for visitors staying towards the northern side of the Tadoba landscape.

Nagpur to Navegaon

Navegaon is another important safari gate that can be approached from Nagpur.

The route generally passes through the Umred–Chimur side before continuing towards Navegaon.

The distance is approximately 130–140 km, depending on the exact route.

Allow roughly 3 hours or more for the journey rather than planning around an exact travel time.

Nagpur to Pangdi

Pangdi is located farther towards the eastern side of Tadoba.

The journey from Nagpur is longer than the journey to Kolara.

A route can pass through the Umred and Chimur region before continuing towards the Pangdi side.

Depending on the exact route, the distance can be approximately 160 km or more. Published gate information currently places Pangdi at around 160 km from Nagpur.

If you have a safari at Pangdi, allow sufficient time to reach the gate from Nagpur or your accommodation.

Nagpur to Moharli

Moharli is on the southern side of the Tadoba landscape.

Travellers from Nagpur can approach Moharli through the Chandrapur side.

The journey is longer than the direct Nagpur–Kolara route, and you should allow approximately 3–4 hours, depending on the starting point, traffic and route.

Moharli is particularly important for visitors staying around the southern side of Tadoba.

Nagpur to Zari

Zari is part of the Pangdi & Zari Zone.

The journey from Nagpur is considerably longer than the journey to Kolara.

If your safari is booked at Zari, check the exact route and travel time from your resort rather than using the general “Nagpur to Tadoba” distance.

This is one of the reasons why choosing your safari gate before arranging transport is so important.

Which Route Should You Take from Nagpur?

A simple way to think about your journey is:

For Kolara and nearby northern gates

Consider the: Nagpur → Umred → Chimur → Kolara route.

For Navegaon and nearby gates

Consider the: Nagpur → Umred → Chimur → Navegaon route.

For Moharli and southern gates

Consider the Nagpur → Chandrapur → Moharli route can be more practical.

For Kolara, Pangdi and Zari

Consider the Nagpur → Chimur → Kolara route can be more practical.

How to Reach Tadoba from Nagpur by Train

Nagpur Railway Station is a major railway junction and is well connected with many cities across India.

If you are arriving in Nagpur by train, you can continue your Tadoba journey by private taxi or pre-arranged transfer.

However, if your final destination is towards the southern side of Tadoba, Chandrapur Railway Station may be more convenient.

The official Maharashtra Tourism information identifies Chandrapur Railway Station as approximately 45 km from Tadoba, although the actual road distance to your safari gate or resort will vary.

Nagpur Railway Station or Chandrapur Railway Station?

The right station depends on your safari gate.

Choose Nagpur when:

• Your train connection to Nagpur is more convenient.
• You are staying towards the northern side of Tadoba.
• You are continuing towards Kolara or nearby gates.
• You are combining your Tadoba trip with Nagpur.

Consider Chandrapur when:

• You are staying towards Moharli or the southern side.
• Your train has a convenient Chandrapur arrival.
• Your resort provides pickup from Chandrapur.
• You want to reduce the final road journey.

Always check the distance from the railway station to your actual resort, rather than simply checking the distance to Tadoba.

Nagpur to Tadoba by Bus

State-run and private buses connect Nagpur with places such as Chandrapur and Chimur.

However, public transport becomes less convenient once you need to travel from the town to a specific safari gate or resort.

This is particularly important for safari visitors because:

• Safari gates may be several kilometres away from the main town.
• Morning safari reporting times can be early.
• Public transport may not operate at the required time.
• You may have luggage.
• You may need transport for the return journey as well.

For this reason, a pre-arranged private taxi or resort transfer is generally more convenient for the last part of the journey.

If you are staying at a resort, ask the property about available pickup and drop arrangements before finalising your travel plan.

Know Your Safari Gate Before You Travel

This is probably the most important travel tip for anyone travelling from Nagpur to Tadoba.

Do not simply book a taxi by saying:

“I want to go to Tadoba.”

Tell your driver the name of your resort and safari gate.

Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve currently lists six core gates and sixteen buffer gates across its different zones. The official zone listing includes Kolara, Navegaon, Moharli, Khutwanda, Pangdi and Zari as core gates, along with numerous buffer gates.

Your safari permit will specify the entry gate.

The distance from Nagpur can therefore vary significantly depending on where your safari begins.

Why Gate Selection Matters

Suppose you are staying near Kolara but book a safari at Moharli. You may have to leave your resort much earlier than necessary and spend additional time travelling before your safari.

Similarly, if you are staying near Pangdi or Zari, choosing a gate on the opposite side of the reserve can make your safari morning considerably more tiring.

Therefore, Choose your accommodation and safari gate together.

Nagpur to Tadoba: A Better Way to Plan Your Journey

Instead of planning your trip in this order:

Nagpur → Tadoba → Find a resort → Find a safari

plan it like this:

Safari date → Safari gate → Resort → Transport from Nagpur → Return journey

This simple change can make your Tadoba trip much smoother.

The official TATR visitor guidance similarly recommends booking the safari, selecting accommodation near the chosen gate, arranging transport to the hotel and safari gate, and then planning travel to TATR.

Reaching Wildcat Resort from Nagpur

Wildcat Resort Tadoba is located in the Tadoba region and is designed for guests who want a comfortable nature-oriented stay while exploring Tadoba.

If you are travelling from Nagpur, it is advisable to share your:

For an early-morning safari, arranging your vehicle the previous day is particularly useful.

Why Stay Near Your Safari Route?

A safari holiday is not only about the safari permit.

You may need to:

• Leave the resort before sunrise.
• Reach the entry gate on time.
• Return after the safari.
• Have breakfast.
• Rest between safaris.
• Travel again for an evening safari.

Choosing accommodation that is practical for your selected gate can therefore make a significant difference to your overall experience.
