How to Reach Tadoba from Mumbai – Road, Train, Flight & Travel Guide

Planning a trip from Mumbai to Tadoba for a tiger safari? Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is one of Maharashtra’s most popular wildlife destinations, and Mumbai travellers have several options to reach the reserve.

You can drive to Tadoba by road, take an overnight train towards Chandrapur or Balharshah, or fly from Mumbai to Nagpur and continue the journey by road.

For most travellers, the best option depends on the number of days available, your budget and the safari gates you plan to visit.

If you are planning a short 3-day or 2-night Tadoba trip, flying from Mumbai to Nagpur and continuing by road is usually the most time-efficient option. If you enjoy road trips, the Samruddhi Mahamarg provides a convenient route towards the Tadoba region.

This guide explains the different ways to reach Tadoba from Mumbai and includes practical advice for planning your safari and stay.

Mumbai to Tadoba Distance and Travel Time

The road distance between Mumbai and Tadoba depends on the route and the safari gate or resort you are travelling to.

Older routes through central Maharashtra can be considerably longer. With the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg, the road journey has become more convenient, particularly for travellers heading towards the northern and western sides of Tadoba.

A practical road journey from Mumbai to the Tadoba region can take approximately 11–13 hours, depending on your starting point in Mumbai, traffic, breaks, road conditions and your final destination.

The exact distance also varies because Tadoba is a large landscape with several safari zones and entry gates.

Therefore, when planning your journey, it is better to calculate the distance to your resort and safari gate, rather than simply searching for “Tadoba National Park” on Google Maps.

How to Reach Tadoba from Mumbai

There are three main ways to travel from Mumbai to Tadoba:

1. By road – suitable for families, groups and travellers who enjoy driving.
2. By train – a comfortable option for overnight travel.
3. By flight – the fastest option, using Nagpur Airport followed by a road transfer.

Let’s look at each option in detail.

Mumbai to Tadoba by Road

Driving from Mumbai to Tadoba is a good option if you are travelling with family or friends and want flexibility during the journey.

The opening of the Samruddhi Mahamarg has made the road journey towards eastern Maharashtra considerably easier than many of the older routes.

Recommended Road Route

A practical route is:

Mumbai → Nashik → Samruddhi Mahamarg → Shirdi → Sinner Interchange → Wardha → Tadoba

The exact exit and final route should be selected according to your safari zone and accommodation.

If you are travelling towards the Kolara side of Tadoba, a useful approach after leaving the Samruddhi Mahamarg is:

Samruddhi Mahamarg → Arvi/Wardha interchange → Wardha → Samudrapur → Bhisi → Chimur → Kolara

For visitors travelling towards the Moharli side, the approach is different.

Therefore, do not blindly follow a route generated by Google Maps after entering Tadoba as the destination. First decide which zone and gate you are visiting and then plan the final part of the journey accordingly.

Why Drive from Mumbai to Tadoba?

Driving has several advantages:

• You can start at a convenient time.
• You can stop for meals and refreshments.
• It is convenient for families travelling with children.
• You can carry your luggage without worrying about transfers.
• You have a vehicle available for local sightseeing and travel if required.
• You do not have to depend on airport or railway-station transfers.

Road Trip Tips for Mumbai Travellers

The journey is long, so a little preparation makes a significant difference.

Start early. Leaving Mumbai early in the morning can help you avoid some city traffic.

Keep fuel and essentials ready. Although the major highways have fuel stations and facilities, the final approach towards the forest can have fewer options.

Take regular breaks. Do not try to complete a long journey without adequate rest.

Avoid reaching unfamiliar forest roads late at night. Plan your arrival so that you can reach your resort comfortably.

Check the final safari gate before leaving Mumbai. Your resort may be closer to one set of gates than another.

Download or save your route offline. Mobile connectivity can become weaker as you approach forest areas.

Mumbai to Tadoba by Train

Travelling by train is another practical option, particularly for travellers who prefer an overnight journey. Nagpur railway station is nearest railway station for going to Tadoba from Mumbai.

Several trains from Mumbai towards the Nagpur are available on Central Railway route. Duranto Express is the best option to save time. It reaches to Mumbai in the morning

For guests staying towards the Kolara/Pangdi side, it is particularly important to discuss the final road transfer with the resort before selecting a train.

Arrange Your Pickup in Advance

Do not assume that you will easily find a suitable taxi immediately after arriving at a railway station.

At Wildcat Resort Tadoba, guests can contact the resort in advance to discuss transportation arrangements from the railway station and planning the journey to the safari gates.

Mumbai to Tadoba by Flight

For visitors who have only two or three days for their Tadoba trip, flying is usually the most convenient option.

Mumbai to Nagpur Flight

Take a direct flight from:

Mumbai – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM)

to

Nagpur – Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport (NAG).

Direct flights currently take approximately 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes, depending on the airline and schedule. Direct services are available from airlines including IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express.

The actual door-to-door journey is, of course, longer because you need to allow time for:

• Travel from your home to Mumbai Airport
• Airport check-in and security
• Flight time
• Baggage collection
• Transfer from Nagpur Airport to your resort

Nagpur Airport to Tadoba

After reaching Nagpur Airport, you need to continue by road.

The distance varies significantly depending on the Tadoba zone and the location of your accommodation. Maharashtra Tourism lists Nagpur as approximately 140 km from Tadoba, while actual driving distances vary by entry gate.

For visitors travelling towards the Kolara side, the road via Umred–Chimur is an important approach.

If you are staying at Wildcat Resort, discuss the airport pickup with the resort before booking your flight. This allows you to plan your arrival around your safari schedule.

Which Is Better – Flight or Train?

For Mumbai travellers, the choice can be simplified as follows:

Travel Option	Best For	Main Advantage
Flight + Road	2–3 day trips	Saves travel time
Train + Road	Budget-conscious travellers	Comfortable overnight journey
Self Drive	Families and groups	Flexibility

If your priority is to maximise the time available for safaris, Mumbai → Nagpur by flight → Tadoba by road is generally the most practical choice.

If you have more time and enjoy travelling by train, an overnight train can be a comfortable alternative.

If you are travelling with a group of family or friends, a self-drive trip can also work very well.

Mumbai to Tadoba: Plan Your Safari Before Your Journey

One of the most important mistakes Mumbai travellers make is planning the transport first and the safari later.

Tadoba has multiple safari zones and entry gates. Your choice of gate should be considered together with your accommodation.

For example, if your resort is on one side of the Tadoba landscape and your safari is booked at a gate on the opposite side, you may have to spend significant time travelling before your safari.

The distance between the resort and the safari gate becomes particularly important for early-morning safaris.

Why Your Safari Gate Matters

When booking your safari, consider:

• Distance from your resort
• Core or buffer zone
• Safari availability
• Morning or evening session
• Your travel route
• Number of safaris planned

Do not select a gate simply because it is available.

A slightly less convenient safari gate can result in a very early departure from your resort and a longer road journey.

Which Tadoba Gates Are Convenient from Wildcat Resort?

Wildcat Resort is located in the Tadoba region and provides access to several safari gates.

Depending on the safari availability and the location of your accommodation, guests may consider gates such as:

• Sirkheda
• Somnath
• Madnapur
• Belara
• Palasgaon
• Pangdi

The most suitable gate depends on the safari booking and your itinerary.

We recommend checking the actual distance and expected travel time from the resort before finalising the safari.

If you have booked a second safari, leave for the designated gate at the appropriate time.

If your flight timing permits, you can take an early-morning safari.

Return to the resort, have breakfast and check out.

Travel to Nagpur Airport and take your flight back to Mumbai.

For a short trip, always leave sufficient buffer time between your safari and flight because road travel from Tadoba to Nagpur takes several hours.

Should Mumbai Travellers Book a Safari Before Travelling?

Safari availability can be limited, particularly during weekends, holidays and popular travel periods.

The official Tadoba booking system currently allows regular gypsy bookings up to 120 days before the date of entry. Tatkal booking opens three days before entry at 8:00 AM, subject to availability. Tatkal bookings are non-refundable under the current rules.
